PADI
IDC additional info and how to prepare yourself...
As
a certified Divemaster or Assistant Instructor, you're ready to begin
the training that provides both - a career in diving and the respect
only afforded those divers who carry the PADI Open Water Scuba
Instructor credential.
Program
Description
The PADI Instructor Development Program prepares you to function as a
PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor. In addition, it further develops your
leadership and teaching abilities to the instructor level and prepares
you to teach PADI programs. During the PADI Instructor Development
program, you'll learn the PADI System of diver education, standards and
procedures,
effective academic teaching presentations, teaching in confined water,
conducting open water training dives and additional related topics.
You'll learn these topics one of two ways; through the PADI Instructor
Development Program (IDC) or the PADI Instructor Orientation Program
(IOC).
(Note: the
IOC is an option available only if you're an instructor that is current
with another certification organization and wish to become a PADI
Instructor.)
After successful completion of the IDC or IOC, you must successfully
complete the PADI Instructor Examination (IE). You will be evaluated on;
dive theory, academic teaching, confined-water (pool) teaching,
open-water teaching and general diving skills and professionalism.
As a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor you can conduct the entire range
of PADI experience programs and PADI diver programs, from Open Water
Diver through Divemaster (except for specialties and PADI Emergency First
Response, which require specific Specialty Diver Instructor and Emergency FIRST
ResponseŽ Instructor ratings).
After successfully completing your PADI IDC/IOC and IE, you receive a
certification card and certificate denoting this rating. You'll also
become a member of PADI and receive benefits, including the ability to
purchase professional liability insurance (which may be required to
conduct some activities).
IDC OVERVIEW
Our expanded 12-day IDC program aims to make the transition from Padi
Divemaster/Assistant Instructor to Padi Open Water Scuba Instructor low
stress and a very valuable learning experience. 100% effort is expected
from all IDC candidates, but you will still have a lot of fun and enjoy
your course at the same time.
In our program you will feel like a person - a member of the team - not
only another candidate.
We emphasize the importance of team spirit and cooperation, which are
some of the most important factors towards a successful future as a
diving professional. We work hard to be able to give you the best
possible back up and support during your IDC, making it a very rewarding
learning experience.
To greatly improve Candidate teaching presentations, they will be
recorded on video, being able to see your classroom and confined
presentations, will make the learning process more realistic and
enjoyable for you.
Your Course Director will be available for questions and any assistance
when preparing home assignments, presentations and general
considerations throughout the whole IDC program. We also know the
importance of having a Course Director speaking your first language;
Stein is present to clarify any language related questions if needed.
Assistance available in English,
German, Norwegian, Swedish and danish.
Furthermore, all of our dive center facilities will be available to you
throughout the IDC, including TV, video, whiteboards, slide projectors
and our complete Padi library.
Our experience tells us, that what you actually need to become
successful both during the IE and more importantly afterwards out in the
field, are extra academic and open water control presentations and
additional water skills practice.
By providing an above average service and support, we ensure that you
can fully concentrate on your IDC, turning you into a professional dive
educator.
Recent changes to the PADI IDC (Instructor Development Course) breaks
instructor training into two parts. The PADI AI (Assistant Instructor)
program which was optional before on the path from PADI Divemaster to
PADI Instructor has become the first part of the revised IDC curriculum.
The IDC which was 7 days before this change is still 7 days. The new
revised AI curriculum is now the first 3 days of the IDC and the last 4
days is now called the OWSI (Open Water SCUBA Instructor) course.
Tauch-Terminal still offers our IDC candidates the extended 12 day IDC
program.
New Course
Materials:
IDC Candidate Workbook has changed and the Confined water and Open water
lesson plan slates have been updated. Along with the revised
Course Director Manual and updated evaluation slates, new digital
presentations are available including photos, diagrams and video clips
from various PADI videos.
Diver retention programs, and business principles for the dive
instructor. Candidates come away better prepared to offer complete
programs that attract dive customers.
Teaching children with more focus on youth diving and how to plan
promotions to youth and family.
Prescriptive teaching and how to make more effective use of available
media and training materials. How to organize and conduct the Peak
Performance Buoyancy- and Project Aware Specialties. We understand the
importance of teaching using only the latest educational materials.
The candidates must now complete all course knowledge reviews prior to
the start of the IDC. Candidate knowledge development presentations
(academic presentations) now include practical local dive information,
dive equipment and real world examples.
Other
Instructor level courses
Assistant
Instructor Course (AI Course - 5 days)
This course will provide you with a very valuable preparation for the
IDC program, and will expand your knowledge & skills making you a
professional Assistant Instructor. This course is your next step towards
Instructor level. You will develop an effective presentation style for
teaching in classroom, confined & open water sessions for any Padi
course. You will be able to teach divers under the indirect supervision
of a Padi Instructor.
IDC
Preparation Course (2 - days)
This 2-day course will prepare you for the IDC program by specific
preparatory training and development. We will look at different dive
theory topics and also Padi standards & procedures. In water work
includes how to give high quality demonstrations of skills. There will
also be an introduction on how to do effective academic presentations.
Instructor
Development Course (IDC - 12 days)
This course is the very heart of Padi Instructor training. Our expanded
10 day IDC not only prepares you for how to pass the IE, but more
importantly we spend a lot of effort and energy in making you a very
successful Padi Instructor for real life after the IE. The course
content is extremely varied and ensures that you will develop the most
effective teaching technique for your academic, confined water and open
water presentations. We
use the Complete Padi Modular System of instruction. The combination of
real life experience in our Resort setting, and using only the latest
version of all Padi teaching material available will help you to become
a successful Padi Instructor.
Instructor
Orientation Course (IOC 4-9 days)
The Padi system recognizes that there are lots of experienced
Instructors affiliated with other certification agencies in the Dive
Industry. To give you access to the huge market share that Padi has and
to recognize your experience as dive educators, we have available the
IOC program. This cross over program gives you an understanding of the
Padi system of education, using your own personal teaching style.
Instructor
Evaluation (IE - 2 days)
After successfully completing your IDC program, you are ready for the
IE. This is a purely evaluative program conducted by experienced
Instructor examiners from Padi. There is nothing new here, you will be
evaluated in topics that you have already mastered in the IDC program.
Make yourself more valuable-continue your own Instructor education. It
is important to understand that diving is a business, new and exciting
job opportunities are steadily increasing, but so is the competition. To
make yourself a more valuable Instructor in the market, you want to be
one step ahead of the rest. The easiest way to do this is to continue
with your own education. Below you will find the most sought after
courses.
Emergency First
Response Instructor (EFRI - 1 day)
This comprehensive program is composed of two core modules that can be
taught in tandem or as stand-alone courses: Emergency First Response -
Primary Care and Emergency First Response - Secondary Care. Together,
these courses proved extensive instruction in CPR and First Aid, as well
as providing optional (yet recommended) Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
and Emergency Oxygen sections.
Because several Padi courses require students to have CPR/MFA
training prior to certification, you want to ensure that you can offer
this course. As a Padi EFR Instructor you can also offer this non-diver
course to family and friends. Your Padi Course Director will give you
hands on experience in how to conduct and organize this course in a fun,
low stress manner, before you do your IE.
Padi
Naturalist Specialty course - 1 day
We feel that all Instructors should have the knowledge and capabilities
of making all of your own courses more interesting and enjoyable, as
well as educational for all students. With the Naturalist Specialty
course and Tauch-Terminals commitment and experience, you will be able
to teach all of your own courses with that extra bit of knowledge,
making you a more interesting Instructor and a more valuable employee.
